Delving deeper into the design of your website? Wondering how much time and expense you should invest in it? These design statistics will have you thinking about how good design can take your business to the next level.

1.   59% Value Design

Did you know that 59% of customers will choose to do business with a company over one of their competitors based on good design? A study reported in Forbes found there was a direct correlation between good website design and business growth. In the same report, 50% of people surveyed admitted to judging companies based on their marketing materials’ design quality. After all, as IBM’s CEO once said, “Good Design is Good Business”. If you can improve the quality of the design on your website, you’ll improve the number of quality customers you obtain, too. Make it clear, memorable, and easy to navigate, and you’ll be on to business success.

2.   88.5% Don’t Like Slow

It’s hard enough getting people to visit your website, but how about keeping them there long enough to be able to make a purchase? GoodFirms reported that 88.5% of their survey respondents gave slow loading time as a reason for leaving a website. With a crowded market, people aren’t going to wait around for your website to appear, and are far more likely to hit the backspace and pull up a competitor instead. A well-designed and maintained website can improve loading times dramatically, even down to simple choices (like a smaller file size image) which will keep your visitors from disappearing.

3.   90% Leave

Bounce rate is how many people look at your page and then leave it immediately, and it’s a tricky metric to fix at times – after all, you’ve put all the work in on getting them to the page, but don’t always have the ability to question why it was they left. Saga Pixel reported in their study that 90% of people will leave a poorly designed website, meaning if you’ve not given them that right impression, you’re not going to gain sales or leads as a result. They comment it should be modern and distinctive – does your website fit that description?

4.   45% Will Pay More

It sounds like a miracle, but the study reported in Forbes suggest that 45% will pay more for a product or service with good design, meaning you don’t need to be the cheapest to convert your visitors into buyers. Investing in website design, from the user experience visually in things like color, to the functionality, will mean you can present your product as premium, with the website acting as evidence to justify why it’s worth the cost.

5.   63% are Mobile

When you design your website, understanding how people will be viewing it will make a world of difference. Gone are the days when people would surf the web on desktop computers, and in fact, in 2025, over 63% of traffic comes from mobile devices, and 96.3% of internet users access the internet using a mobile phone. It’s extremely clear – your website design needs to be optimized for those smaller browsers, so you’re not missing out on those visitor chunks.

6.   17 Milliseconds

You might think you can persuade your customer to like you within the website itself, with your deals or your text, but you don’t actually have that much time to play with before an opinion is formed – according to studies, users form design opinions within 17 milliseconds. That opinion needs to be a good one for you to stand any chance of their conversion to your services, making clear, consistent to your brand, modern design at every touchpoint for your website to be vital to your success.
